Back to Basics… Sailing, Celebration, and Good Friends!
In a world that sometimes seems topsy-turvy, the antidote for me is to go back to basics — good plain and simple fun with friends on a sailboat. Spending the weekend sailing on the bay with Charles, Carmyn, Ken, and Patrik reminded me that fun and laughter with friends is good for the soul.
As is sailing. When I take the wheel (even if it is with my feet) and feel the boat lift and soar under only the wind’s power, my heart and mood soar with each gust. With the wind blowing on my face, the sun beaming down on my body, the smell of salt and diesel in the air, I am transported to another place… and it brings me back to center. Do you have a hobby, sport, activity, or interest that transports you?
This weekend was filled with rewards and the icing on the cake was the Golden Gate Bridge 75th anniversary fireworks display. Words can’t describe how absolutely amazing the production was, but the videos below will give you a hint.
Good friends, a favorite activity, and the occasional surprise show can bring back a smile, energy, and put you back on course. They’re a simple basic, but sometimes that’s all we need.
Fair winds,
Larry
P.S. What do you to to get back to basics?
