Turn Your Dreams into Reality – FreedomSeries Interview with Barry Magliarditi

Is this passion or obsession – sometimes I wonder….
I’m at a point in my life where I should be slowing down, taking it easy, sipping margaritas, watching sunsets, and living my dream life. Quick rewind – I’ve already done that (sailing around the world for 6 years).
I work a lot. Every day, seven days a week, the first thing I do is go to my desk, sit down, and either write, answer emails, study in a class, or do something work/office related. The other day, I sat down to ask why? Sure, I would like the income, but since the event industry has dried up like the Sahara Desert, my public speaking work isn’t producing much income. So why continue? Why not just goof around?
My quest for achievement for myself and others is sometimes annoying, but I can’t seem to help it. I like to keep busy and find myself constantly working.
Why?
My parents clearly have something to do with this. My father was an inventor and spent long extra hours in his factory inventing all kinds of things including the method and machine for installing the hooks in your draperies.
My mother was a nurse and nutritionist. I remember about a month before she passed away, I asked what she was writing. It was a vitamin regimen for a friend of hers and she was handwriting it, having already spent days on the project.
“Why are you taking the time to do that,” I asked? Her answer was so simple. “Because I have the knowledge to help my friend.” It gave my mother purpose and fulfillment to continue helping others.
And so it goes for me. I like helping others making their dreams come true. I have also discovered my contentment comes from achievement. That makes me a coach very interested in my clients achieving success. If I’m not working towards a goal of achieving something, I feel lost in a sea of endless possibilities. I guess because I like what I do, it doesn’t seem like work.
How is it for you?
What does Independence Day mean to you? On a national scale it represents the birth of a nation. However, after 236 years, it’s difficult to relate to desiring independence from the British. After all, they are now our best friends and ally, and none of us remember ever being enemies with the Brits. I mean really, who could be angry with the Queen? And where would we be without tea and scones, gin and tonic, or the original Mini Cooper? Not to mention their keen sense of humor and dry wit.
Perhaps Independence Day has a more personal meaning to you. From whom or what have you gained your independence? Maybe you moved on from a meaningless job, an unkind boss, or a bad relationship. Or maybe you’re working on it. Give yourself a pat on the back for earning even the smallest bit of independence, and continue striving to gain more self-determination while retaining your individuality.
Your independence is not free from burden. It comes with responsibilities and accountability. By definition it means not blaming others for decisions you make, and actions you take. Whether you enjoy independence in your personal or business life, the course you choose to steer defines who you are.
And yes, I’m also grateful for the country’s independence. I don’t really like tea, and scones need too much butter and jam to be palatable. Besides, I like burgers and ice cream.
I raise my glass and join you in celebrating whatever level of independence you have achieved. Here’s to you being YOU.
Fair winds,
Larry
P.S. What form of independence are you grateful to have in your life?

Today’s Retirement Situation—The Hard Truth
A majority of those approaching retirement have not thought about what happens after their career comes to an end because the idea of losing one’s identity is frightening. Many of life’s big transitions are scripted for us and follow an established progression from one stage to the next. In school, we progressed from kindergarten to elementary, from middle to high school and the next step for some was college. In the corporate world, you climb the ladder from supervisor to manager, director, VP, President, and then the C-suite. If you’re in the military, you rise through the ranks in proper order. But now that you are approaching an unscripted part of your life, you have the opportunity to direct what you will do with the rest of your life. Do you have a plan for what you’ll do with your time? Will it provide you with fulfillment and purpose?
Proper anchoring is not just for boats — it’s for your life.
Sailing around the world teaches you to have faith in your anchor. Sometimes it was nerve-wracking as to whether or not the anchor would hold, but after learning proper techniques, we knew we could trust the anchor to hold us through the worst of conditions. Having anchors in your life is important. The potential metaphors are endless.
My personal life anchors are mental convictions I can always count on. I confess they don’t hold 100% of the time, but they guide me and keep me from drifting. By sharing my life anchors, I hope to inspire you to establish your personal anchors for Your Unstoppable Life.
1. I can direct my life by the actions I take. I choose where to set the anchor. If I don’t like where I am anchored, I should move.
2. I establish my own values and morals. I establish these anchors based on the information around me and look ahead to changes that might be coming.
3. I have a backup plan. I continually refine my goals and visions. I want them manageable, achievable, and far-reaching.
4. I always strive to improve in character and craft. Digging deep for strength and skill takes practice.
5. I appreciate those around me and strive to let them know it. It’s not necessary to yell at your friends or crew.
6. I enjoy the view and mark the worth of every day.
I hope you’ll find these “anchors” as useful as I found them. I use these almost like guiding principles in my life. Feel free to borrow them.

Find Your Passion and Make it a Priority in Your Life!
Take a moment to take the “Passion Quiz”. These questions are designed to help you clarify what you love, what you are passionate about, and what you want to achieve in your life.
Here’s to living with passion!
As a leader in sales and marketing for twenty years, and then captaining his own boat around the world, Larry Jacobson speaks with a unique authority and credibility. As a leader and adventurer, he weaves tales of his six-year odyssey circumnavigating the globe with the challenges of leadership in our fast-paced business world.
There are similarities in leading your crew while facing 30-foot walls of water slamming into your boat in a horrific Red Sea storm, and leading in your company. It’s lonely, scary, and it’s easy to want to make it all go away. Making your dream of sailing around the world come true doesn’t happen by luck, but by good leadership and visualizing achievement.
Like sailing around the world, leadership is making decisions, taking risks, maintaining a good attitude, facing fears, staying focused, and digging deep for strength and perseverance.
Larry Jacobson used these same traits and business disciplines to close millions of dollars in business, and to complete his circumnavigation. From high-tech to home products, Larry understands sales cycles and distribution channels, and what it takes to close sales in just about any industry. His keynote is the perfect fit for any sales meeting, conference, or incentive program.
Leadership begins when anyone decides to be their best and Larry challenges each listener to do just that:Achieve Unstoppable Performance in Leadership.
In this keynote that’s the perfect fit for any sales meeting, conference, association, or incentive program, your attendees will learn:

A serious blog about funny things…
As you go about your day, your senses are bombarded with things such as wacky billboards, terribly named products, or oddly painted cars. You see events such as people engaging with each other, and you see actions such as a driver with road rage or an elderly person being helped across the street. We see lots of good and bad every day. We often notice these things, events, or actions and tell others: “Marge, I saw the strangest thing today…”
But do you notice the funny things, events, or actions? What did you see today that was funny? From giving you a little chuckle, an out loud giggle, or a rolling on the floor with laughter until your side hurt, funny things that make us laugh are wonderful medicine that we rarely stop and take note of — and share. As The Joker said to Batman,”Why soooo serious?”
Laughter IS the best medicine. That’s why my goal of each day is to make at least one person laugh. Whether it’s the banker I call on the phone, or the store clerk when buying groceries, I try my darnedest to make them laugh, often at my own expense by making fun of something I have done. Sometimes I start laughing at myself and then someone sees me laughing and asks what’s so funny, and I say, “Well I’m just laughing at myself. I used to be so decisive. Now I’m not so sure.”
What things, events, or actions did you see or do today that was funny enough to make you stop and notice? I ask because the key to receiving the full dose of laughter medicine is to recognize that you’re laughing. And laughter, like fear, sadness, or depression, is contagious. Laughing and smiling people make others laugh and smile. Be the one who is laughing and smiling.
Joining you in laughter,
Larry
